Every family has different Thanksgiving traditions. A lot of people choose to have a turkey. The turkey has become the symbol of Thanksgiving because of the number of families that do this.
Some families always have cranberry sauce, homemade pies, and will eat until they cannot eat anymore and then go watch a game or parade together on TV.
There are some families however, whose traditions are very different. They focus on what they are thankful for, and then they go and give service to others. They feed the hungry at the homeless shelter, they take food to the food bank, or invite those who are struggling to their homes to eat a good home-cooked meal.
A few families will take three pieces of popped popcorn and place it on their plates before the meal begins. They will take turns going around the table to talk about what they are thankful for. This helps them to remember all that they have been given. While the food is a great blessing, getting to hear about what each family member is thinking and feeling can be a great memory to recall years later. It is especially touching when family members talk about how much they are thankful for each other.
No matter how you spend Thanksgiving, there are traditions that you enjoy that should be passed on to future generations. What you give them is what they will have to draw from when they are raising families and setting traditions of their own.
